I know I will not manage to finish this before the end of the GB but I thought I would share what I am working on inspired by the GB and what I intend to finish as soon as I can. Pics of construction to follow, I hope !

Blohm & Voss BV P425

Developed as a follow on to the successful BV P215, and to fulfil the requirements of the Technische Luftrüstung  for an Air Defence Fighter an with the ability to detect attacking aircraft at long range and the capability to engage multiple targets with the new X6 air-to-air missile,  the P425 featured several design ideas taken from allied aircraft
To allow the incorporation of a radar that was capable of detecting targets at long range, necessitated that the original nose intake be replaced with individual air intakes for each engine incorporated in the wing roots. A large pointed radome replaced the nose intake and covered the large dish of the FuG 440 radar which had a range of 25 miles. The crew remained the same with the Pilot sitting at the front left while the navigator/radar operator sat next to him. Behind sat the gunner/radio operator who controlled a pair of MG151's in a remote controlled turret mounted on the upper fuselage. With four of the X6 missiles as the main armament, only two 30mm cannon were fitted as fixed forward firing armament. Six of the new X6 air-to-air missiles could be carried by the BV425 though usually four were carried along with a pair of external fuel tanks as a compromise of weaponry against range and loiter time.

I took some pictures of how far I am with this build so that everyone will have some idea of what I am building and why I will not finnish by the deadline  :banghead:

Here is an image of how far I have got with the cockpit which apart from the Pilot and Navigator/Radar Operator's seats will be scratch built. I do make rods for my own back nearly all of the time.

To quote a famous Australian painter "Can you tell what it is yet?"

looks like this one has some promise :)
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

After an enjoyable time in Perth for the Scottish Nationals the BV 425 has been taken over by Arado, apparently it was an Arado design that was contracted out to BV but they were making such a hash of it that Arado took control of it back.

New designation of the aircraft is the Ar 666 ?

well its not surprising considering how much work I have to put into it to make it look decent. I will post further pictures once I get back to working on her.

Thanks for the time extension, pity its not until 2011 with all the work I have to do to this kit !

Just do what you can with the time you have, I fail to finish GBs all the time but by getting a lot done its easy to finish later on

Is that a Frog/Novo Sea Venom canopy? Looks good whatever it is: nice project!

Interestin'....  S*d the deadline, keep it coming!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Thanks for the supportive comments guys.

Basic kit is a Novo Sea Vixen with a Sea Venom canopy with the heavy framing removed and then polished.

Turret ring is part of a spare nose radome from a Matchbox Meteor and the turret itself will be from a B-29.

Thinking of trying a Tamiya Mosquito cockpit heavily modified under all that nice clear glass that I now have.

Tail fins will be from spare end plates from a Matchbox Halifax and there will be scratch build X-6 missiles under the wings.

Lots more work to carry out and I will try to keep on top of the build and actualy do something at least once a week.

The round type of turret not the tear drop version and only with two guns in it.

Just received a Flitzer in the post, I could try and get that made by the deadline but maybe not, too many ideas to research and so many books to read after Perth.

........ wonders away wondering how much plastic card he will need for a Vulcan Phase Six with Skybolts.......
