Here!

It appears that only popular names for IJN planes follow any kind of scheme; popular names for the IJA aircraft appear to be totally dependent on whatever mood strikes the manufacturers or users.

Two further observations from me:

  • IJA and IJN sometimes used seperate popular names for aircraft that both services would field (for example, Ki-115 kamikaze aircraft is called "Tsurugi" by IJA and "Tōka"- Wisteria Blossom- by IJN), and
  • the "special cases" mentioned in the Wikipedia actually extend to all aircraft employing non-conventional (meaning "not being propeller-driven") propulsion schemes or meant for kamikaze missions; granted, many though not all Japanese "Special Attackers" belong to both categories......
To the individual soldiers, *everything* is a frontal assault!
