As it's now "official" being in the current issue of Military Aircraft Monthly, the sad news is that Neil Robinson has "stepped down" as Editor and Overall Editor of SAM Publications.
I won't go into the reasons as that's between him and SAMI, but sad.
I'm not sure yet what Neil's doing next, but I can never imagine him being "quiet". ;D

Quiet? Neil?

NO chance!

But it is sad he's no longer part of the SAM Show. To my mind he did THE best job as editor there ever, and that's not just because he's a good friend.

Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Sad day, be interesting to see how the titles perform without him

Like more than a few here, I count young Mr. Robinson as a personal friend and all around 'good guy' - he wont be 'out of frame' for very long, I'd wager a fair amount of my stash that he's already got something lined-up.

My SAMI, MAM & MMIS arrived this morning whilst I was having my Friday Lunchtime Meeting  so haven't had a chance to look at them yet. However included with SAMI was a complimentary copy of MAM... now I know how these things work but I now have two copies

I've chatted with Neil on a few occasions and found him a really nice bloke, but probably know Gary Thatcher slightly better so it will be interesting to see how things go under his stewardship. I understand what they are trying to do with the titles but change will be difficult and as a subscriber to both I'm not 100% sure that I would have subscribed to MAM if I'd realised it was going to be pure reference. If,as they say, it is tied in with articles in SAMI then probably yes, but I'm not sure.

It's like MIS changing to a "pure" Military modelling magazine when they launched their aircraft modelling magazine. I subscribed because it covered both spheres of interest to me. Then they change it 2 months into a subscription ! Had a "go" at SMW and got a deal. but will probably not renew my MIS subscription.

Saw the news in the magazine also, but there are probably valid reasons why he is stepping down. I seem to recall, did he not have a heart attack or stroke not that long ago, therefore this could well be the main reason - Doctors orders. There may be other reasons or its maybe a combination of factors, always found him to be talkative and pleasant whenever he was North of the border, but as suggested he may have something in the pipeline, either writing articles or getting some kits built for articles. We can only wish him well whatever he does, and hope that the quality of the magazines will remain to a high standard.
Time will tell with that one.
Cheers

He had two heart attacks in quick succession, and has reduced his workload quite a lot over recent years as well as other lifestyle changes. I know that's not the reason for his giving up/leaving MAM etc., and at the moment have no idea what's "in the pipeline".
But I'm sure we've not heard the last of him.

Like Terry, I know some of the reasons why Neil has left SAM Publications, but again like Terry...Ill say no more on that front.

Its been common knowlage that he was leaving in this neck of the woods for a while, with SAM publications located in Bedford, news can and does leak out, and reaches the Northants swamps with ease.

And Terry....Id say your right, we havent heard the last of Robbo :)
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Apparantly Neil is now attached to Aviation Workshop as a "Commissioning Editor", something he successfully carried out when he was the SAM editor....remember all those monographs, etc..

Also, he's NOT at the Cosford Show.
