my second(and third)whiff

a pair of dap beaufighter's
a mk22 powered by p&w r2800's armed with the usual aussie beau 60lb rockets and guns(4x20mm cannons and 4x50 machine guns)



the backstory is that with the japanese taking Burma and India the supply of Bristol engines couldnt be guaranteed,so the r2800 was licensed to cac(along with the r1340 and r1830) and fitted to the local production beaufighers.
the next one is a mk23 beaufighter
powered with an uprated p&w r2800 an extractor style exhaust and 4 bladed props plus 5"havar rockets on zero length rails.



with the hold up in local production of the a26 invader dap were forced to produce a stop gap beaufighter till the a-26 came on line and with the help of cac they produced the mk23,with the later r2800's intended for the a-26 and a better exhaust plus us supplied munitions the last beaus rolled off the line.

both models are the old frog mk21 beaufighter but with the inclusion of quikboost f7f cowls and motors,the rockets on the mk22 are from the hasegawa beaufighter on the frog rails (i'm still hunting for the right props though).
the mk23 has had the lower nacelle flatened under the wing for the individual outlet style exhaust and uses resin zero length rocket rails with frog rockets modified to look like 5" havars

Didn't Pratt and Whitney make engines for the Aussie Beaufort series, too? Smaller ones than the R 2800, though, I suppose?
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

I wonder what the 2600s did to the nickname of "Whispering Death"? The Bristols with their sleeve-valves were supposedly very hard to hear when it was attacking.

thanks for the kind words guys,i thought of building an r2600 one but i never really liked the long pointed nacelles(and they'd be a bugger to build )and the r2800 was just the right diameter  :ph34r:.
yes the Beaufort also used a license built p&w motor so it makes this a little more believable ,and with r2800's being built in oz the radial ca 15 comes a little closer  :wacko:(just need an nkr one to butcher :o)
