In the 1950's the West German Navy was becoming increasingly worried about control of the Baltic in the face of the increasing strength of the Soviet Navy. Some politicians and Luftwaffe officers pushed for the F-104 Starfighter to be adopted, but the Bundesmarine insisted on their choice of strike aircraft - the Blackburn Buccaneer. A licence was negotiated for German production of a version (S.51) to carry  the Kormoran anti-ship missile, similar to the South African S.50 but without booster rockets. Twenty years later the Tornado was rejected in favour of an upgraded Buccaneer S.52, with new avionics, state-of-the-art cockpit displays and the RAF's bomb day door fuel tank. After 40 years' service the final Buccaneers were retired at Eggebek, MFG2 painting a display aircraft in spectacular fashion (in real life Tornado 45+30)
My first models in over a year (its a long story!) Airfix 1/72nd, Kormorans from Italeri Tornado, decals from spares box plus my first home-printed MFG2 retirement badges.

Now those certainly look the part!! It's a shame my Luftwaffe Bucc is no more. It would have made a good stable mate to these two. Lovely job Glen.
If you love, love without reservation; If you fight, fight without fear - THAT is the way of the warrior

If you go into battle knowing you will die, then you will live. If you go into battle hoping to live, then you will die

Lovely pair of Pirates Glenn!  That MFG2 retirement bird is very striking!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Excellent work on both but the MFG2 is my favorite
