Brilliant!  The modifications are so subtle that they really keep you guessing which parts were original and which aren't!
Cheers,

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

It looks so real!  The JMNs should have a fun time with this one for sure

Top notch sir, keep it up

Thanks, fellas.  I really appreciate the kind words.  As the year winds to a close, I'm pretty sure the P-49 will be my last completed model for 2010.

Again: thanks.  Means a lot coming from such a talented bunch.

Me too!  Quite a double-taker Baz!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Really interesting... You did it very well.

I was wondering... why Google and historians do pretend the XP-49 was a Lockheed twin-boomer while this P-49 is a Republic American Mustang
After a 50-years search in the archives, I have the answer:
- the Republic American P-49 was a derivative of the P-40 and forefather of the P-51
- the XP-49 was the XP-38R renamed to fool spies, hiding the winning P-49 project
Here is an overview of the whole line (JHM has built the P-49C):

In my head I know it's a hybrid model, but as beowulf already said, it just looks so 'right'..

Baz, the finish, colour, and weathering look just perfect.....the manly shape, the little hairs..and that's just your hand !

What a nice looking aeroplane....just right in every direction. Love the oil leaks, the shark's mouth, the differing tanks, the beefy fuselgae. Awesome idea, and very well executed.

Thank you very much, guys.  Tophe, your alternative history is very diverse, yet believable.
