Thanks for the book reference, Amazon just shipped me a copy.   It's a part of history I have little knowlege of save for the bit of WW-II we get in our country's (deficient) history classes.

I thought of another issue that would have occurred – the absorption of Luxemburg into Germany. It was part of the 1815 German Confederation, so it might well have joined. Obviously this would have resulted in there being no Luxemburg Crisis of 1867 where France and Prussia we threatening war. So if Lux. had become part of Germany, what affect would there have been on Frances desires of claiming Belgium (they wanted to use Lux. as a platform for annexation)? Would the Dutch have allowed the Duchy join? There was already a large Prussian fortress and garrison in place (which was removed in 1867 by Bismarck).
