Eventually we found the B&B by complete mistake, asked about this "castle" only to find there had been no such castle since the 1600's and all that was left were a pile of stones in a field....

We get that around this neck of the woods....Locals keep getting asked where Northampton castle is.
It was destroyed on the orders of Charles the 2nd as a "punishment" for the towns support of parliment duering the Civil war...The site is now Northampton (castle) train station. Not many decent pubs in that part of town thou.
