Helijet Gunship Idea

Hey Guys, Tell me how this Sounds:What If Someone Built a 'Gerry Anderson'style Helijet Gunship? What Kind of Helicopter would Work for Such a Project? i was Thinking a CH-46 or CH-47 but,also Thought some Choppers from Europe or Russia might also Work. What Say You? thanks for looking.Dan

A Mi-26 Halo converted to a co-axial rotor sytem would look awesome as a gunship, shorten the tail and add short wings with lots of pylons.

I had to hit Google to see what you were talking about.  Any of the birds mentioned would do, provided they had big jet or propfan pods on the sides.  The Mil V-12 looked like a Gerry Anderson machine in real life, so it or any of its descendants might work.

Question: do the side engine pods rotate or not? I suspect not, but I can't remember and I can't find any footage of it flying.



A Plasticart Yak-24 might make a good, less identifiable fuselage donor. The engine pods from the re-issued old Revell B-47 would be about right too.

As for a gunship, well since these designs are of a 1960s vintage, how about going for an earlier, Hueycobra style of gunship cockpit, i.e. with a rounded, unarmoured canopy more akin to a fighter?
