I'm under the impression that hot rod engines will be trashed or have to be rebuilt after every use......

Partially true of top fuel dragsters and funny cars (rather than hotrods which are a different animal) not so much the other classes.
Anyhow Challenger and Goldenrod are Land Speed Record vehicles where a longer life and reliability are desired.

I used them as examples to look at of multi-engine power-trains built by enthusiasts rather than industrial or military concern.
Its not the tuning and performance level of the engines but how they are combined to drive one or two axles that could be
applicable to your notion.

Also any combined vehicle based on the Renault, a tractor or bulldozer is going to be very slow,
its just the nature of the critters and how they are geared.

The JCB Fastrac would be a good base vehicle.
