Thats a really great link, but the problem arises... it's not exactly the same tripod is it? And there's no telling how deep the water is. I was able to compare 2 diferent pictures, 1 with a frame of reference, the other being a frontal shot with full height. From there I was able to guestimate how tall the thing was, and my model is 98% the same as the CGI featured ones from the musical. But that Battleship is dead-on to what was in the painting of the album cover.

I'm always working on this thing. I hope when I'm done that someone with connections will notice this thing.
My plan in to use 3 generations of WOTW. The Jeff Wayne tripods... the Orson Wells broadcast of 1939, and the 1953 Invasion.. but try to weave them into a coherent story.
The 1898 was a blunder on the part of the Martians and didn't know about Earth's microbes. The cylinders were shot out of a massive gun on a 1 way trip to invade and colonize Earth. They had no way of getting back or retreating anywhere. I'm fudging my history with this but I'm going to assume that the UK did not benefit from any downed martian machines, just too advanced, and our history advanced as normal.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUkAH1RY69o please note that ALL textures are turned off. I was just seeing if the animation and camera angles were decent and didn't want to wait an entire day for the render to complete.

I'm going to be making the 1939 radio broadcast an actual event, an armed scouting party to NJ (much like the WOTW television show postulated).. The tripods come, blast the local militia, take some germ samples that get sent back to the big brains on Mars. But the whole time Orson is asked to cover it up as a fake radio broadcast so as not to cause REAL panic.

Then, when the big brain elders back on Mars plan a concerted invasion for 1953. I can't animate them, but somehow I'm going to incorporate the funny little aliens from the 53 movie as bioengineered soldiers for the martians that will be resistant to earth bacteria. Hell, I can even make it so that they were cloned using earth DNA samples.
Then for that invasion.. the martians have built a massive mothership inside the moon Phobos, to be the launching point for a much larger invasion for 53. I've taken my old mothership design that I did 10 years ago, and updated it a bit with hangar bays. Can't see them in this video.. but with the smaller Manta ships.. the landing cylinders can be much smaller and more efficient. I've been able to cram hundreds of Mantas within this 12,000ft long ship. But it's really hard to convey scale with this video. I need to completely redo it anyway.. it's only a test.

I am sufficiently happy with this sequence to move onto other things.

Hearty cheers!  I salute you and your period correct helmets! It's always nice to see US soldiers wearing English style hats.

I designed this 'little' guy to be an intermediate step between the Martian's mothership and their more land bound war machines. I thought that even a massive mothership would need both fighters/escorts/worker bees to support it, so I designed this. It's a combination of the Jeff Wayne WOTW tripod, the flying machine from the game of the same name, and the Echo Papa 607 drone from the Star Trek TNG episode "Arsenal of Freedom"

I had originaly created something similar to this 10 years ago for my original WOTW video, but the quality of that model was laughable and today, embarassing. Also, it looked much closer to the EP607 than this.

This little scout is BIG. Much larger than the Manta war machines its meant to complement. These are the air/space fighters and workers used to mine asteroids and contruct everything in space that is needed for the Martians. I modeled it around the same size as the JW tripod, so it's sized for an original Martian rather than the 1953 pilots. It has a light heatray for delicate work, a heavy blaster for bigger jobs and manipulator claws similar to the Handling Machine.

Arg! The Martian Death Shrimp! I shall haunt my dreams!
You'll need a bearded man with a barrel chest to tell it that he's been transfered from the Enterprise to the Lollipop, and furthermore, it is a good ship.

A prawn? Wow, the thought never even occured to me. But now that I look at it... my bad.
Mothership

Don't know how much more detail I'm going to put into it. This of it as a Mon Calamari/Zendraedi/Manta ship.
