A 1967 RAF recruiting brochure shows a nice mockup picture of an F-111
in RAF colours.  Did they also have this scheme in mind for the TSR2 at one stage.

Gondor

the picture is a little on the small side, any chance of posting it a bit bigger please ?

And the original photo was a carefully 'doctored' photo too as no F-111 ever flew camoflaged like that, at least so I was told by a member of Air-Britain who was compiling the BMAS&M quite a few years ago and even though they wanted to use a proper photo, none could be found and used this doctored one instead.
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

a check through some of the earlier threads may show some pics i posted up of an original model in the scheme shown as well as some pics of the aircraft at final build, i used to have them on my old tsr site, something ill have to try relaunch sometime

Thanks to all

I remember when I was a kid having an RAF recruiting brochure with the
same picture in, and cutting it out.

No RAF F111s were ever painted up in the US. However, the RAF desk model
of the aircraft features in the 1968 edition of the Putnam aircraft of the Royal
Air Force book and three additional views were in an issue of "Air Clues" and
reproduced in the excellent site Joe mentions.

The earliest pictures of RAF F111s in Flight's military aircraft listings and in
other contemporary sources simply gave the USAF version RAF roundels.
A manufacturers picture reproduced in a book in the F-111 used a totally
fictional green and brown scheme presumably as it was close to the USAF
Vietnam colours.

What makes the green-grey Vulcan scheme interesting is that it is the only
one to appear in official MOD literature of the time.  The other is the all white
scheme used on the Precise Models aircraft shown elsewhere.

Any other schemes are thus purely speculative. However, as the Buccaneers
of 12 Squadron at Honington seem to have been a direct F-111 replacement,
that would be the most reasonable what-if version.  Further out than that and
one is in the well-trodden land of what-the-hell-I-like this scheme so-what.

I have seen the Precise Models F-111 in the flesh as well as a smaller 1-100
version in USAF grey with RAF roundels.  I have never found what happened
to the model featured in "Air Clues". Like other models in "Air Clues" of the TSR 2
and the 681 it must be somewhere, so keep looking...

In the study of John Enoch Powell (Shadow Secretary for Defence) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enoch_Powell there sat on the mantlepiece a builders model of the F.111K in the standard US. 'grey and white' scheme with RAF. roundels.
I have some photographs of it somewhere which ill try dig out

If anyone has the old RAF magazine Air Clues from 1967 there is an article about the F111
with pictures of a model of the aircraft in RAF camouflage from 5 different angles. A similar
picture appears in the contemporary edition of the Putnams aircraft of the Royal Air Force.

I have been trying to find my set, but if I can find one on the web I will post it.  This is the
best source of what the RAF wanted to paint its F111s and looks very like the Vulcan camo of the time.

Brilliant!  Thanks for publishing this. I still have not managed to find mine.  I would love to know where
that model is now.  It may be a Precise Models or a Space Models.
