On my way up to the Lakes the other day, I passed a low loader carrying an EC-135 helicopter. It was considerably bigger than I had expected it to be smaller than it was. Whilst up on a campsite at Patterdale, an EC-135 flew over too, but I don't think it was the same one, also whilst chilling out on the lakeside, we got treated to some low flying Hawks, which the first of which nearly made my mate jump out of his chair.
Yesterday I heard some piston powered prop planes but could not see them, and also got some more Hawks doing their stuff at low level down Lake Ullswater. Today whilst packing away, I got treated to 4 Hawks then a bit later 2 Tucano's going over at full chat low over the lake, I just love the sound of those Tucano's, and they were a lot quicker than I expected too.

Now there's a 2-for-1 sentence if I've ever heard one !  ;D

Never heard a Tucano, but I have the Harvard II and it sounds really cool. I'm guessing they would sound rather similar ?

Trust me to write something that doesn't make sense  :banghead: I had been drinking lots of cider by the way :drink:
I love the sound of the Tucano's,they occasionally fly over my house heading north, and the mixture of propeller noise and a jet turbine certainly does it for me  I dare say the Harvard II will sound pretty similar too, what made it that bit more special was the sound of the aircraft echoing off the hillsides either side of the lake.

Tucano's have a very distinctive noise, quite growly, even for a turboprop.  See 'em regularly when I'm working in York, they fly from nearby Linton on Ouse.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Not only the noise, but a number of years ago I came out of a shop in Prince's Street, Edinburgh, just in time to see a single prop going away from me towards the airport.
It was a Tucano, but seeing it from low, rear, three-quarters, it looked SOOOO like a P-51.
