Late to the party as usual but have the Hobby Boss kit pretty much put together.  Need to add a tail hook and maybe fold the wings.
Only concern is the fit of the nose side panels (if you have built this you know what I mean).  Should have put some plastic behind to get them to sit closer to rest of the fuselage.  Will try and get them off and redo or may have to resort to FSR  :banghead:.

Think I have some Korean War Navy markings left over in the decal stash (hope so).

So, would you stick with the F-84 designation or come up with a more naval designation (if so, any ideas)?

Hey, look, I did some work on a model.

So took some time to rub down the putty I put on last week.  Not going for perfection here anymore, just trying to see if I can actually finish a GB for once.  Might have to do a little more touch up but maybe not.

Still debating on whether to fold the wings or not.  Would definitely add to the Naval look but since they are solid, might cause me some grief.  Will try to figure it out this weekend.  Also need to confirm if I have enough US Navy markings.

Well you could fold the nose and tail along the wing axis..definitely quirky.

But markings alone will be adequate to get this moving along

Cheers ;D

I definitely would, but only at the aileron/flap join. IIRC, the undercart has a very wide stance - a Republic 'signature' - so watch for that on the underside. Shouldn't be too difficult to track-down some old Superscale decals for a Panther/Cougar or Banshee....

Ok, point of no return.

Now, how should I make the folds look?

I vote inward folds, like the Banshee you demonstrated.

Pretty much what I am thinking.  Got to go through some old IPMS mags and look at Eddie's wing fold conversions and get some ideas on how to attach them.

Maybe have to look at some of the ones that are already in the completed thread.

The evil part of me suggests you fold them back against the fuselage a la Hellcat

Actually considered that, for all of 1 second.

Here's a second vote for an inward fold. Seems to work best to me.

I'm glad you took the plunge, Phil! I'm already looking forward to your next update!

Well, looks like another GB I won't finish :banghead:.  Cutting the wings was a big mistake.  They are solid and I haven't had time to try and drill out the mounts for the wing fold mechanism.  I did pick up some decals that will work so gotta find some time to get to this.  One of the local clubs is having a What If contest at their meeting this Tuesday and I might try and make it.
