Hey Guys, Even though i'm a 'Yank', i always thought the BAE Nimrod was a Cool & Sexy Aircraft. Question:Has the Nimrod Ever been Painted RAF Trainer Yellow & used for ASR Work? it's Something i've often wondered about & Thought i'd ask. Hope i'm not sounding Nuts. Thanks for looking.Dan

Nope, (Its actually ASR rescue yellow as Trainer Yellow has a slightly different hue)

The Nimrod are primarily an MPA and only second to ASR duties when called upon so therefore do not ware the high visibility markings as carried by more dedicated ASR units.

However as whiff i cant see any problem with doing that, you would need to use one of the redundant Nimrod sqdns for markings and Rescue would need to be added to the titling which should also include the full Royal Air Force titiles which are not carried on the MPA variant.

Alternatley you could do it white with Red trim as a UK Coastgaurd, Two-Six Decals do a set for an Islander which could be used as a basis.

Another possibility would be assigning out of service Nimrods to the Royal Navy as ASR where they would be the same grey as the current nimrods, but the Dayglo Red Nose, Tail and wingtips with full three colour roundels and Royal Navy & Rescue titles.

One Nimrod did get painted this colour though, it got called 'The Flying T*rd'

A fellow Air-Britain member sent me this pic, he took it just after it was pulled from the paint shop.

The tails have been painted in different colours to mark squadron birthdays.
