I was going to do my 1/800 Arii flat-tops as 1/700 CVV's and a CVVN (no idea who for yet), with different islands and possibly deck arrangements.

From what I've heard the other 1/800 are closer to that scale, and 1/700 aircraft wouldn't work for a real-world kit, but one could whiff it as a smaller carrier, perhaps an alternate design, a European design, or as the basis for a Soviet CVN post-Kuznetsov.

How about pre-kuznetsov or the French PA-58 class carrier (larger Foch variant)

I've done a pre-Kuznetsov, but the PA-58, now there's an interesting idea. You'd need plans, aircraft, radar and electronics.
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

There's a good start! I've got the plans. Hmm. With what kit to begin?
F/A-18s and E-2s, but there have to be some French aircraft.

Oo, oo, side thought, back to the original thread, but new model - BBG-66 in the 1980s! One of the 1/700 Iowas and the Cyber-Hobby 1/700 Albany! VLS replaces Talos, Tartars gone, new 5", ASROC replaced by Harpoons, new radars and directors.
Those are the next models on the buy list. I've been doing planes and armour recently, and need to get back to my ships.

Now you're thinking my navy!   ;D

I've got all sorts of insane VLS equipped ships in my head.

Wonder if we can get aircraft from HP Models as they do Charles De Gaulle and Foch in their range.

AS to an 80's BBG-66 how about the left over Albany with MK-26 launchers and Nato Sea Sparrow for closer range missiles along with Phalanx and maybe Tomahawk boxed launchers or standard Harpoon ?

Sure couldn't hurt to ask about the planes.  JAG will sell you the aircraft sprue from their stealth carrier, so maybe HP will do the same.

The ARII "1/800" actually scales out to 1/730, and I'll be pairing it with a heavily updated Revell 1/720 NJ, and the diorama will be "one-sided", with an opaque backside to force perspective.

Oh really?  So would 1/700 aircraft look noticeably too big on it?  Would 1/700-1/720 (GMM Super Carrier Sheet) PE work then?  I'm thinking it would since they both work on the Italeri 1/720 CVs.  I've just never had one of the ARII kits to actually do the comparison.  Hmmmm....

Here are some photos of my build of Arii's Midway with 1/700 aircraft onboard.

Unfortunately it is not possible. I have tried to get extra Rafales for my Charles De Gaulle (only four are included in the kit) but HP said that they won't sell extra aircraft. It is possible though that L'Arsenal will produce Rafales in 1/700.

Hey Nektarios!  Looks like the 1/700 aircraft fit in just fine on the ARII kit.  I'll have to add that one to my to-do list.

Hmm. Losing the Talos fore and aft, and the Tartar. That's look somewhat odd, but then those ships were an odd looking bunch in the first place.
Tomahawk boxes forward, Sea Sparrow box launchers in place of the Tartars, keep the ASROC, update the 5", add Harpoons quads and Phalanx, don't replace the after Talos with anything to save the room for a helo deck park.
I'll have to get the kits and play around with parts.

Hi Joe

Would look rather tasty with an updated two tier AAW missile system
