Well, I'm really starting to like this WWII prop stuff, especially the 'non-mainstream' stuff like the Mustangs and FW-190's.  That bubble-top Hellcat of Rene's is simply brilliant!

Anyhow, Japan really did have a LaGG-3 pilot "defect" so to speak, and they did evaluate the very pretty, but underwhelming fighter.  Mine is quite a bit different from the real thing, but if the Japanese got hold of one, who's to say they didn't have another?  Anyway, this is the ICM kit with the Eduard photoetch brass.  Just an opinion here, but the self-adhesive brass is a waste of time.  At least for me.  But it sure does help this kit out on the cockpit--which isn't bad to begin with.

I really liked the ICM kit.  In fact, I'm seriously thinking of starting to shave the locating pins off my models in the future, since it really made it easier to finesse the fit of the pieces while the liquid cement sets up.  The details on the kit were very good, I thought.  I'm not a rivet counter, so if the detail looks plausible, I'm good.  I'd highly recommend this kit (and the other LaGG's based on it).

Paint was chromium oxide green and nato black, with some silver on the metal bits.  I used IJN grey on the bottom.  Didn't I just say I'm not a rivet counter?  Wel, I'm not much of an FS number-looker-upper either.

I like it, and I know feck-all about LaGG fighters.

What's non-mainstream about Mustangs and Fw-190s?  I mean, I looked at the aircraft tables at the Nats in '07, and they were some of the most prevalent prop types, after the disgustingly ubiquitous Me-109.  Just asking.

Great look bearing Hinomarus... Nice idea!

Looks good

Re shaving the pins off. Mike McEvoy recalls an old modeller friend who did that on every kit he built as he was convinced he got a more accurate fit that way.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

What I meant was that those subjects are in the mainstream, and therefore less interesting to me.

Ah.  Right on, then.  I completely understand.  I only have a handful of piston-engined types in my stash, and none of them are what anyone would call mainstream.

Very nice.

... and for completeness the Real World Lagg from a Japanese book on captured aircraft.
I colorized the profile for the heck of it.
