Having done a fair amount of research, I've not been able to come up with any reference or images of any U.S fighters over Europe that carried any sort of multi-colour camo scheme.
Was it just a case of NMF or all olive drab or mid green?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you'll find the standard early scheme was Olive Drab over Neutral Grey, later on progressing to NMF aircraft.  That being said, there were the variations on the theme used by the 56th FG with blues & greys & greens like those I've attached.

The green/grey P-47's probably utilised standard RAF colours. The "dark blue/purple/black" one is interesting. I've seen various interpretaions of the colour including 2 completely different ones given by pilots on the squadron  :banghead:

As I've always said "every person sees a colour slightly differently to the next one, so whats the point of arguing over exact shades"  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I still love the "Dk Blue/Lt Blue" scheme.  According to the pilots who flew them, that scheme was highly effective in the air.  So much so that they had trouble seeing each other.  Maybe that's why it wasn't put into widespread use on other fighters/squadrons?
