Variable geometry studies were carried out initially by Vickers at Weybridge, as part of an investigation into fitting vg. wings to a number of aircraft types, Swift, Lightning, Hunter etc., then later as possible TSR.2 development at Warton under BAC. with a developed and refined wing sweep design (a vg. wing was looked at by EE. during the design stages of the aircraft but rejected as too costly and requiring a long development to mature)
Wind tunnel and design work was also carried out by NASA. who were interested in the Vickers vg. studies (development funding being provided by the US. via the MDP. fund) using a wing initially similar to that of the Vickers design with later refinements in planform and section

a similar fuselage abiet in generic form was used for further NASA studies and wind tunnel testing into slew wing configurations
