I went into Paperchase in Manchester yesterday and noticed some stuff that would be useful for modelling. Frustratingly, they have a website but none of this stuff is on it!

Corrugated cardboard sheet. This consists of one corrugated and one flat sheet of card bonded together so the corrugations are "stable". Damn great (A2?) sheet for £3, loadsof different colours. Could be useful in making buildings, roofs, sci-fi stuff etc... I have one project in mind which requires a fairly large factory building, and this is a MUCH more economical way of doing it that using model railways stuff which seems to be priced in pounds per square inch. The only downside is that, being card, not plastic, you have to be careful what you paint it with, but that's not the end of the world.

Plastic sheet. A4 pieces for £1 to £2 each. Three thicknesses of clear, plus loads of translucent coloured tints. That's significantly cheaper than modelling supplies too.

Spray paint. Can't remember the brand and it was pretty pricey at £6-odd a smallish can, but it's distinguishing feature is that it's supposed to be VERY benign, even being useable on expanded polystyrene.

Tissue paper: large quantities in multi-colours for reasonable prices.
