Phil, the floater is a P-40.  It's actually already got the paint on, it's grey so it doesn't show well on the photo.  But thats where I lost heart with that build, when I peeled of the masking I found it hadn't gone to well.  To be honest, it won't take a lot of effort to fix it, but at the time I couldn't find it in me to finish it.  The other projects are a 1/144 Hornet, a 1/72 Zeppelin Flakmine, a 1/48 Luft 46 kitbash & hidden under the French Curve templates is Freightdog's 1/72 SR.177K.

Baz, I set the deadline so as to make sure it gets finished.  It's not hard & fast, if a tree falls on the house it'll get shifted (that'd be damn bad luck as the nearest one large enough to do any is about 500 yards away!), otherwise I intend to get on with it.  Part of the reason is to see if I can get enjoyment out of seeing a build through to end, if I don't, I should try & find another hobby that's more satisfying.  To be honest, it runs deeper than that & I'm hoping that this spurs something within me for other parts of my life.  If all I get out of it is the realisation that I have a hobby I enjoy, that's great.  If it helps to get me out of a rut, even better!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Ahh, that's better!

Well, looks like it's going to be purely symbolic as there's a wind blowing down from Siberia into old blighty tonight & snow is promised in other parts of the country.  No snow here probably, but it's still bloody cold in that garage.  I'll be moving the stuff indoors & hopefully I can get started tomorrow night.  At least I'll have something to do that won't involve me spending cash in January!

Phil, sorry, forgot to mention about the rattle cans.  Yes, they are Halford paints & they're damn good compared to others I've used, the paint finish is great & they tend to keep their pressure well, even if a little cold (though probably not as cold as they will be now.  Halfords is an automotive store chain in the UK & Ireland & as far as I know they have no stores elsewhere.  I don't know who makes their paint I'm afraid, or if you can get it under any other name outside the UK.

Seaplane P-40, were you planning a Flying Tiger version (seen some artwork here for that)?

Thanks for the info on Halfords.  Did know they were automotive paints and they seem real popular with the UK modelers.  I have been using Wal-Mart brand rattle cans.  They  cost less than a dollar and also go on great.  Problem is the color selection.  Great if you want black, white, aluminum, primer grey, red, yellow, blue or green but OD, etc

Yeah, the Halford cans come in all sorts of colours, & there's just about every shade of green & silver you would ever want.  Trouble is they give the names by the car manufacturer & colour, i.e. Ford Pearl Silver or some such so colour matching can be a little difficult.

The P-40 Floatplane has an atlantic scheme of two tone grey over white.  It'll get Brazilian Navy decals, as they never operated any aircraft during WWII, or indeed any fixed wing machines up until the 90's.  The idea is that they took surplus American aircraft, & simply overpainted the roundels, similar to how the Brazilian Air Force did.
