Nuffield A.39 Tortoise, heavy assault tank, production cancelled 1945

25 examples of the A.39 Tortoise were ordered directly from the mockup stage to be available for operational service in September 1945. Following the end of the war the order was cancelled and only 6 vehicles were completed. One example was sent to Germany for trials where it was found to be mechanically reliable and a powerful and accurate gun platform, however at a weight of 80 tons it proved difficult to transport and deploy
