^ Or maybe a mid-course guidance platform, an equivalent to certain variants of the Tupolev Bear. Maybe even a British Looking Glass type command and control aircraft. A VC-10 perhaps?

Well, 1960's? It'd need a crew & long legs... What did the Brit's have in the 60's that would fit that description? A Vulcan or Victor would kinda miss the point but might, in a pinch, make a reasonable launch vehicle. A converted 2-seater fighter?

Sea Venom or Sea Vampire? Sea Vixen? Gloster Javelin? Hawker Hunter? Supermarine Scimitar? Blackburn Buccaneer? Did any of them have a decent range?

There's only one answer to that question, and it's ALWAYS the same answer........

A CANBERRA!  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Yeah, I'll pay that!

Maybe a Vulcan as a carrier/launch vehicle with an accompanying Canberra to remote pilot the weapon to its target (the Vulcan having used too much fuel carrying the weapon into range to remain on site to act as its control centre).
