Could you adapt something like these: http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AOD48001 ?

The markings will be very similar, and you can scrounge serials and letters from various sources.

EDIT: Sanger do some 1:48 bombers with coastal command markings - maybe contact them to get a sheet for the Whitley? http://www.sangereng.fsnet.co.uk/british_1.htm

EDIT 2: Just found this Techmod sheet, which contains a 304 Sqn in CC colours. http://www.model-art.eu/TECHMOD_48809_148_Vickers_Wellington_MkI_C-666.html It's in the night scheme, but the markings look to be the same apart from red fuselage letters.
