Torchwood

June 1st, 1942.

Operation Sealion was a huge success for Hitler, with his Army sweeping away pitiful resistance from remaining British Forces. By the start of 1942, what remained of the British Armed Forces had to go 'underground', fighting like a better trained and better armed French Resistance.

In the tragic Battle of Britain, the Germans had totalliy devastated RAF bases, and the advancing land forces dealt with many remaining aircraft and airfields. By 1942, all that remained was a handful of old American fighters that at this stage were very much obsolete.

But the top British scientists and engineers were working on top secret weapons to hit the Germans hard Barnes Wallis had a plan. Working with Frank Whittle, he ordered 50 Brewster Buffalos to be built in a hidden underground factory in Bolton. Except, these aircraft wouldnt be the usual poor-performing fighter Pilots came to expect. These aircraft were modified, fitted with Whittle's brand new propulsion system: The Jet engine!

Two small jets were coupled to the undersides of the wings, dramatically improving performance. In a genius move, Wallis designed a new bomb, which could be made easily from the little materials available, but delivered a devastating explosion. The bomb was just the right size to fit under the fueselage of the new Jet powered aircraft.

By June, 1942, 36 aircraft had been made. They were distributed to flat but hard to see land, like large fielfs, and forests. The aircraft were rushed, and in many cases, the matte Black paint was worn to the skin.
The Radial engine was kept in, and was used for take off and landing, but could be feathered for flight, when the jets would take over main power.

On the 1st June, 1942, 10 aircraft took off from their individual 'bases', and formed over Cheshire. They flew at the dead of night, and their matte Black aircraft were very difficult to spot. Armed with Wallis's new bomb, they flew low level over fields towards Birmingham. The large city had become the Nazi headquaters for Aerial operations, as, due to its central position, it was hard to attack.

At 3am on June 2nd, a series of huge explosions ripped through the night sky in Birmingham. 4 Luftwaffe airbases were bombed, with 50 German aircraft for the loss of no aircraft.

For the next three months, the new aircraft carried out raids on strategic German positions, and started to turn the tide of the war...

The Germans became terrified of the aircraft, listening closely for the roar of the Jet engines, leading to the aircraft being given the name 'Banshee'...

A really old build of a Buffalo that i wanted to update, so i just knocked a simple whiff together. Not finished yet, needs an undercarriage and bomb, then it can stand :)

pretty terrible yes, but i built it when i was a kid unassisted so ill let myself off

change teh backstory to keep the use of the piston engine for take off/low speed work then feather the prop when the speed builds :)
custom made pc desks built to order (including pc inside the the desk)

The German response to the Banshees was the Dornier Do 335 B-6/TNJ some weeks later. A special night fighter with high speed of more than 750km/h.
No more chance for night surprise attacks of the British.  ;)  ;)

More soon....

Greetings
Peter
You only live once, so make something of it.

Captain Canada

Nice one ! Love the sinister look. Need a pointy thing on the prop shaft tho, to give it that 'finished and faster' look !

CANADA KICKS arse !!!!

Long Live the Commonwealth !!!
Vive les Canadiens !
