The hard way!

I started by shaping a piece of florists foam to fit the bottom of the upper hull, so that it sat out from the sides.
I then cut out the desired shape & skimmed several mm's off for putty.
First up I covered it in an auto putty but it was initially too runny to shape & then too hard (literally) to work with, so I ground it down with the Dremel, except the top surface, which attached OK to the top part of the model.
Next I surfaced the skirt area with Aves Epoxy Sculpt (awesome stuff!).
Then I cut & sanded the Aves into the desired shape.

I would suggest trying something else to harden the outer faces of the foam (it really is VERY soft) & skipping the auto putty part completely.
However, I believe that Aves is God's gift to modellers!

No, Ron, can't say I have.... Unless I was in high school? 30+ years ago?... But I'm pretty sure I haven't.

I'm pretty sure you would like them. The heros of the stories are huge senient tanks The universe (started by Laumer) Has been continued by several different writers. The sci fi is very hard and the bolos themselves are the heros with humans as secondary characters.
