It's a Vought V-507: competitor to the F-14 using some licenced Dassault technology. It's swing-wing, so not as much Vigilante as you might think. It's really more a case of F-14 meets Mirage G.2.

Bagera3005 did a lovely profile of it here: http://bagera3005.deviantart.com/art/Vought-V-507-spartion-126031852

It's the same general shape, but I think the V-507's has a lower aspect ratio: broader chord at the base and lower.

A model of that would drive the JMNs totally DEMENTED!  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Silly boy

It does look a little like something that someone on here would come up with though - nice looking aircraft
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Jschmus

Is it only a mockup, or did Vought actually build the airplane?

There's a fair bit of info in ASP Fighters, can't remember off the top of my head if there are any more photos.  Some drawings here:

Dassault 'helped' with the design of the V-507.  To me, they just gave them the AFVG.  It's very similar to AFVG, just scaled up.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Aren't JMNs demented by definition?  Driving them round the bend can only improve their condition, can't it?

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?
