The Wooksta

Another fairly simple cut and shut, this time a Centaurus engined Corsair.

Inspired by Kitbasher's Centaurus Corsair and partly a retort to it.  I heard a mention a while back that the US was looking at licence building the Centaurus and fancied doing one but it was one of those many many ideas that gets pushed back.

However, I'd seen Kitbasher's Corsair on another site a while back but couldn't grasp why he'd done it with a Tempest/Sea Fury installation when engineers generally try to go for the simplest solutions (well, unless they're German...) It just didn't seem right or plausible. So I decided to go with the most logical route.  Simply replace the US engine with a Centaurus engine from a Brigand.  No need to add oil coolers, the Corsair already has them\in the wing roots anyway.

A cheap HobbyBoss Corsair was the kit chosen, partly as it were cheap and more because the plastic was thick - I'd been thinking about a bubble hood and it would withstand some carving.  Canopy pinched from something else (possibly a bubbletop Goddyear Corsair) and decals from a Sea Fury.  Five blade prop to set it off.

Very good looking aircraft. Great shape and paint scheme.

Beauty. I'd like to see one with the standard canopy......now that would be real sweet ! Corsairs just seem to lose some of their toughness with the skinny back like that.

Sure flows together naturally.  Would the exhausts be underneath the rear cowling lip with this engine swap?

Matchbox Tempest II/VI Centaurus and prop was used 'cos I used the Matchbox F4U-4C Corsair as the basis, not withstanding the lip intake the cowling looked rather small, and I wanted to keep the beefy Centaurus look.  Also clipped the wings as per all FAA Corsairs.  My canopy was plunge-moulded - still have the mould which will come in handy when I make a start on my Bid For SMW2009 Fame & Fortune after Easter.
Strictly not a competition, but interesting to compare the two!  ;D ;D

I have the hobby boss kit which I plan to re-engine with a Soviet radial.

I must say that I was a little cold on the HB kits but they are a hoot. Great for a quick little bash!

Yours looks real nice!
