Hi team,
I'm planning a future P-40K-5 build to feature an exposed/cowls-off engine and I've learned the subject aircraft had a -73 engine.

So the question is: which 1/48 V-1710 is the best choice to represent this variant/sub-model? Scalemates lists nine options, are any of those suitable or is anything more accurate out there? Failing that, what's the closest to a -73?

Thanks in advance!

Any of the F series with the short offset spur-gear reduction case, rather than the
long planetary-gear reduction case of the C series as used on the P-40 through
P-40C. There are no major external visual differences between the marks of the F
series. Those that exist wouldn't matter in scale.

Thanks a lot Jon. A kind soul named 72modeller at Britmodeller mentioned similar things:

From the written references that I found, the P-40K was fitted with the F4R  version of the Allison, namely the V-1710-73, which introduced automatic boost control. I would think any resin  F series Allison V-1710 that did not have the two-speed supercharger fitted to the rear of the engine would work, I think those started with the -93, but certainly those in the -100 series.

I was thrown when I looked them up on Scalemates and saw numbers AND letters. Any idea which model the CMK version may represent?

It's an F series, specific dash number doesn't matter as the numbers generally
applied to differences you can't see.

Thanks Jon, although I'm a repeat customer of Engines & Things their moulding can be a bit spotty so I'll try track down the CMK item...if anyone's feeling generous you know how to reach me!
