the hull arrived today and i have started rubbing it down to remove the moulded in cut out lines for a type 23 hull.
the hull is grp and is very well made from fleetscale.
i am also punting this build on fleetscale own board as a link from here.

the hull dimensions are 184 cm x 20.3 cm

the bow dome for the hull mounted sonar sets, in there are the two trandusers for both the underwater telephone and the type 2050 sonar.
in my early days as a junior sonar operator the running joke was "if we ever were at war and we picked up a "Russian "sub on these sets follow us to the lifeboats as the torpedo was already on the way!!!

well here is what it will look like i hope

I have started with the flight deck area, the reason foe the deck edge area are not that clear but i believe that this is a companion way to the lower deck area, were a rarther good idea is used that is changeable modules based on a standard 20 foot container system to change roles quickly, to allow troop loading into of from a ch 47 chinook helicopter rear doors without having to cross the whole flight deck. allowing for faster operations. the flight deck can take a ch 47 with rotors running  fore and aft unlike the current cross deck on type 23 which only allows the side door to be used.

Hell of a project Lenny - hats off to your ambition!

Have they finalised on this design now, or is it more wishware?

still very much wishware, and will porbably stay that way with the cuts the navy is getting, talking to some old mates who are still in they are going from a 8 mounth delployment in the south atlantic, have december to take all the leave they are owed, have january in dockyard hands, then have exercises in plymouth in febuary and are to deploy for 8 mounths in the gulf in march, so much for the so called "family time", but we just dont have the hulls in the water to do all the cometments now

Christ that's bad - how many family men are going to put up with how many cycles of that before they quit?

I will be watching this with interest Lenny, I dabbled in scale model boats for a while my self in the 90's, and the lack of 1/72nd scale warships and fittings really hacked me off. There is only so many Tamiya PT-15's and Perkasa's you can build, and wiff.
Are the fittings available for this, or are you going to have to scratch build them? The CIWS is something I would like to get hold of so as to continue with a long since stalled project I have sat in the shed.
Cheers.

Cheers for that Lenny,
The Goalkeeper CIWS would be a worthwhile investment I think.

no no further work to show as the running gear has just arrived, they are in scale brass props which are nearly identical to the real thing, but took a few months to arrive. i have started on the flight deck well but it was a far as i could go.
it will be a duel use display/water borne with a two channel radio control, with rotating radar and a Merlin on the flight deck and my sea hawk in the hanger for display on a removable display case which can be used as a stand alone itself.

try here for fittings as they do most parts in both 1/72 and 1/96.

Some of those bits could be interesting for non-ship projects: 1/72nd SAMs, SSMs, AAA guns etc...
