Well, seeing as how I went through a phase where I was doing a lot of train What-If stuff, I can help you out; unfortunately most of it is North American but it's a start, anyway.

To begin with, the center of the North American rail profiler's universe is The Railroad Paintshop. Lots and lots of blank profiles here, all in scale, and some of it done by yours truly <blush>. The site no longer updates, but it's still all there for the downloading.

Some of the profiles on the Railroad Paintshop were done by Michael Eby who has Trainiax, his own page. Again mostly North American, but there is a smattering of modern French as well. There is also a page with colour swatches and logos.

Also often featured on Railroad Paintshop, Will Anderson's Train Art Page has many profiles for download.

European stock features on Hans-Martin Hebsaker's page. Unfortunately many of the juiciest links are no longer valid but a Google search based on the names can often find the new pages.

And for the What-Iffer, there is the Loco Locos page; it features the strangest designs from the age of steam, from articulated Garratts to steam turbines and everything in between.

Have fun!
