I like this effort....especially knowing how long it took to build......gloss paint/varnish prob took longer to dry than the kit took to build.....I have numerous WW2 soviet a/c kits that have red stars among the kill markings.....along with many other variations on the personal/group kills.....I personally like the contrast.......great build....H

Is one of the most nice Mig15 I ever seen.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

On the new Airfix tooling of the MiG-15, the one is Korean War markings is a nightfighter.  Green stripes on tan on top, black undersides.

In either case, that looks really slick!  Nice work.  The red bits add a nice touch of color.

Looks very sexy, which is a good trick for a MiG-15!

Regarding points raised:

1. Maybe you could claim it's an early "emergency" night fighter version, produced in a hurry, with a radar derived from lend-lease WWII radar pods in the nose of one of the underwing tanks.

2. Perhaps the red flaps and airbrakes are to help the pilot and ground crew when doing checks in the dark?

Red is apparently one of the worst colours for visibility at night.  This is why so many emergency vehicles are now done in that lemon-yellow colour - they found during testing that it was the most visible colour under all light conditions and particularly in low-light.

Thanks guys, glad you all liked my quick build MiG.

Weather was nice today so to finish this one up, I took some pics of the MiG in some sunshine which I wasn`t able to do in the OP.

Fair comment, although of course, that doesn't stop the Ruskies from getting it wrong in 1950....

If you wanted a real contrasting colour in 1950 for night ops, you'd have used white.  It shows up very well under low-light (as I can testify).  Most militaries use it for convoy markings for night driving, even today.

The red though, I must admit particularly with the second lot of pictures, looks quite nice against the black.
