1949
The war has entered a period of stalemate...........In Africa the Axis Alliance and the Commonwealth have bogged down into a conflict where neither side will give up any territory to each other.
The war at sea becomes one of attrition.....both sides attacking each other's Atlantic convoys.
In Europe, the USSR has nearly finished building its 'Iron Wall' border with the Axis Alliance. There is an uneasy peace between them.
To counter the emerging dominance of Axis designed jet aircraft, the USSR develops its first jet fighters which it supplies under its aid package to the Commonwealth. It sees the war between the Axis and Commonwealth as an excellent proving ground for its weapon development.
The first MiG's are delivered to squadrons in Canada where they are used to train and familiarise with the new type before going on to combat in south and central Africa. They are also used to patrol the border with the isolationist USA, the arrival of these aircraft will spur the US into developing its own jet powered aircraft.
Shown is one of the first to arrive in Canada stationed at RAF Trenton, Ontario










Kit is Airfix 1/72..........went together easy enough apart from the poor fit of the canopy......haven't yet made my mind up as to if I'm going to do the panel lines or not.
I don't think my usual method that I use on cars will work as a draughting pen will be too black, and I've never yet got a wash to work satisfactorily

Hey that looks great - nice one! 

If you want highlight the panel lines, then try a really sharp pencil and re-sharpen it frequently: the graphite grey is just that bit less harsh than black ink. Don't use a propelling pencil though: the ends of their leads are square-cut and you end up with a line on each side of the groove and a bright gap in the middle.

Not sure that I would do all the panel lines on that one though. They're already a bit heavy on the kit and not outlining them tones them down nicely. Maybe just do the control surfaces?

funny enough i was thinking of the same thing, trying a soft lead pencil

Nice back story on the MiG. I have done the pencil highlight before and thought it too stark. I much prefer the sludge wash method.

Well if you think it's too stark but you still want to use a pencil, then try a coloured art pencil in a shade that compliments the paint job, but is a bit darker.

all the way thro i kept thinking about RAF Sabre's.....used some pics for references, so i guess its the right era
