A Monogram Mustang kit that my late uncle built and gave to me 40+ years ago. I think it was the 1:32 scale version that's transparent, has a fully-modelled interior with working propeller and landing gear.

I remember it as larger-scaled and more detailed than the pictures I've found of it now, but maybe that's a 10-year-old's memory embellishing the facts!

I would suggest that the crown for worst box/kit ratio actually belongs to the Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Mk.22/24 kit.

Never seen  the Spit, but I'd also like to offer up for consideration the current boxing of the Airfix Bird Dog. It used to rattle around in a blister pack, but now it comes in the roughly 8"x5"x3" box that seems to be Airfix's minimum size. You could get a 1/32nd scale one in there, never mind a 1/48th. I hate to think of some kid opening one as one of his first models and going "oh...

Whilst I might not classify them as 'Holy Grails' per sae, I would really like to get my mitts on the following from HML:

1/48 Focke Wulf Fw 187 Falke
1/48 Arado Ar 240

Not a kit, but a set of decals:

I have been after a set of Afterburner Decals, 1/48 Viper Zero 6th Hikotai F-2A/B decals (see below) for some time:

My holy grail is a 72 scale C-17 at an affordable price. I've never been a big fan of transport planes, but for some reason I do like that one.

YES!!!!!  I got one of my Grail Kits!!!  Won a 1/144 Testor's C-5 on Evil Bay!  (And I hate the 0 feedback bidder who blew the price up, but...  HAHA, I WON!!!!  Yeah, there's something wrong with me...)

EDIT:  So, yeah, it's not the Otaki one, but I'd forgotten Testors came out with one, so this still counts  ;D

I didn't even know Testors did a C-5, how about a retro-review of it please?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Amodel/Amonster 1/72 M-50 Bounder.  My excuse is that it's massive and that I want to wait 'til my skills are good enough for it.

Anthony, my understanding was that the Testor's kit was the same mold as the Otaki/Revell.  Slap me with the Hand of Righteousness if I'm wrong.

Interestingly, my PAK-20 book doesn't link the Otaki kit to the Revell one (got one of those in the stash).  I've read numerous times that they were though.

According to PAK-20
Otaki reboxed by Yodel.
Revell reboxed by Testors
