I found this pic that SEEMS to be a Japanese Aichi E13A "Jake" in German markings. Arado Ar-196 Move over!

Astute "historians" will remember that Japanese aircraft at the time of surrender were ordered to be painted all-white with green crosses, and thus (certainly in this and other b/w photographs) *LOOK* like German aircraft!!

**I don't know if this "seeming whiffs" might be a category unto its own, or if there are too few to "qualify", but have at it if you know of others!
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Geoff

A few Ar-196's operating off German raiders in the Indian Ocean had Hinomaru onthem.

I guess the surrender Bettys fall into the same category:

You can also get a similar effect when markings are partly obscured - for example, I give you a Japanese Fairey Barracuda (or do I):

All hail the God of Frustration!!!

I hope they're not going to drop the torpedo at that dive angle!

Ah, but then it's probably a kamikazi Barracuda....
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

There's a lot of captured aircraft that could fall into the "seeming Wifs". The really obscure ones are those that were then captured again by a third party and repainted or those evaluation aircraft you didn't even realise the "parent" AF had and then they were captured  :banghead:
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
