With so many builds on the go at any one time, It normally takes me a few months to finish a build these days. So I decided to see if I could still do a quick build, from start to finish within three days.
All existing builds where put to one side and the chosen victim removed from the stash.
It was started about midday on Saturday 18th, and the photos where taken just past 8pm (GMT) on Sunday 19th. Now to add to the fun, Sunday morning was spent at Duxford with my dad for the MAFVA (Miniature Armored Fighting Vehicle Association) National show. So about 14 hours from start to finish on this build. And to be honest, I'm quite pleased with the result.

Heres the result

What we have here is A BAC Lightning FG-2b of 92 squadron RAF, RAF Gutersloh 1977. Basicly a re role'd F-2a into a ground attack aircraft. Kitted out just like the Saudi export Lightnings.

The base kit is the Matchbox F-2a/F-6 kit. The over wing pylons and JL 100 rocket/fuel pods. and the under wing pylons come from the Odds and Ordnance range http://www.oddsandordnance.co.uk/. Decals are a mix from the Matchbox and Revell issues of the same kit. The nose cone and intake ring are from Aeroclub (kit nose cone was missing) the Redtops are off a Frog Seavixen, and the 1000 pounders under the wings are from an Airfix Tornado.

Wow - excellent! It'd take me 14 hours of scratching my chin before starting.....

Very nice!

The mind boggles at combining fuel and rockets into a single package  ;D

Very true Harro.

I belive they where also used on French operated Mirage III's.

They were actually invented for Mirage IIIs, since early versions of the latter only had three pylons. They also came up with a combined fuel tank and bomb rack that looked like a long, ponted tube with four bomb shackles under it, and a JL-100-style pod that had small bombs in the back half instead of fuel.

:)

I have the intention of hanging a pair of the JL100's off a Mirage at some point.

Nice Martin

I'm having problems finishing anything at the moment. May take a leaf out of your book and clear the decks and build a nice simple kit straight through
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I know what you mean, I've had several very good intentions over the last six months. I've ditched them all & pulled out and started an Airfix Shar last night that I've been meaning to do for a while, hopefully it'll go together quickly.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Very nice Martin, even though all I can see is the top photo, the other two appear as white boxes with the red cross in them.

D'oh! just after I posted and then went to have another look, there's all the pics --
