There was an American large turboprop bomber design, IIRC it's somewhere on this site.

Something like the XB-55 perhaps?

The idea of a rebuilt and re engined B-52 has been kicked around the USAF for years.  It's something that makes so much sense that it will surely never happen.  The biggest challenge would be removing the miles of unused wiring from all the mods over the years.  The weight savings would increase the range no doubt.  Its easier to get O&M money to keep repairing old stuff than to get Congress to approve new money to modify something to save billions over time.  Doesn't make sense but that's the way it works.  Easy whiff project however, just steal some engines off a B747, maybe some new camo and markings.

As recent as last year but was rejected because of budget cut-backs.  The four engines would have been the same as what is now on the C-5M, I think they are CF-6-80's
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike
