The Big Gimper

Extending the theme on Turbo prop conversions, here is a WIP conversion of the Airfix BN Defender to a DHC CS3F-1 Defender II.  This is a 1970's CAF Littoral Patrol Aircraft using PWC PT-6 engines. I'll paint it with the RCN greys but with CAF markings.

The kit is the Airfix Defender II  with many bits from the Academy OV-10D.  I will graft on the nose (Gonzo the Muppet?) for FLIR capability, added the front of the engine intakes, spinners with the props trimmed back about 2-3mm so they do not carve in a hole in the fuselage. I added .40 thou of plastic card to contour the engines and filled the rest with putty and added tubing for exhaust pipes out the rear of the nacelle. The right engine is done and I just started the left. I like the soft plastic that was used. Easy to work with.

I moved the fuel tanks into the cabin and will put LAU-3 and LAU-10 rocket pods under the wings sourced from the OV-10D. The pilots whined a lot about the gas and props being so close so they added bang seats.

BTW the OV-10D is a great kit for spares.
