Well with a week extension I decided to throw my hat in the ring!

A snaptite 1/72 tomcat, A 1/350 K-3, and the top hull of a 1/700 Tamiya Kursk (oscar class) The Kursk has been just sitting in my spares box, so I decided to finally make something of it. It needs a new Sail/conning tower so i decided to scratch one. Then as luck would have it the K-3 comes with two! Been working on all three but the tomcat is the one that takes the most work, as the K-3 is only about 12 pieces without the periscopes and masts!

Swing wing gloves removed.

Conning tower made from cut down 1/48 Tomcat canopy and windscreen. Just glued this morning. the parts that were removed from the canopy were shoved into holes and super glued in to seal them, they will be sanded later

Thanks Thorvic! Yep they are from Berna. I have a few and although they can be a bit temperamental they are really useful

Heres more!  ;D

the 1/700 scale oscar class. You can also see the Tomcat fin I used to create the fin, with K-3 bridge fitted at the rear.It would not have fit as well where the Oscar bridge should go, so I went Typhoon instead!  I like it, I think it looks like an older version, or first generation of that classic typhoon.

The other fin in the foreground has been fitted with a drop tank for the Sonar on top, and will go on the tomcat sub

Sprayed with "dark grey" primer. Its really a very off black which is just about perfect for scale effect, and I think I might actually be able to use a black wash and bring out all that fine recessed detail.  even better, he K-3 came with TWO sets of decals! So I can add a few to it as well

Wicked! Maybe not an early Typhoon, but an SSGN version of the Typhoon!

Also, is there ANYTHING you CAN'T make out of a Tomcat?
Cheers,
Moritz

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

SSGN-- Thank you, that is more accurate

I had a rough idea with the Tomcat, and talked about it with Simon (Saurugnom ) who has a lot more knowledge of ships and subs. his help was very important, if anything just thinking it wasn't completely dumb! I kinda thought that a snaptite kit, is "on borrowed time" anyway  I plan on doing a 1/48 IJN version but I need to find a way to make it more WWII like (a bizarre exercise when you think about it!)

Thanks Moritz!

Black wash over that lovely dark grey sounds damned fined to me...

Who's dark grey primer is it, BTW?

The screws for the K-3. One of them was only half formed so i used a really small piece of thin styrene to help its shape

And with the deadline fast approaching (still Friday here  ) SWMBO and I got a few decals on her just before the bell

The first decal we used absolutely fractured with our setting solution and tore up the paint!  :banghead: Lousy salt corrosion! We just used plain water on the rest. I will take pretty pictures tomorrow but as of right now, I am calling it done!

One outta three isn't bad  ;)
