Enough to make you weep.......  :banghead:

For the fact that the real thing got cancelled and the model is SO good. Well done indeed.

Simply outstanding, Commodore Thorvic!

It really impresses me that you've been able to transfer your skill with aircraft to ships in such a seemingly effortless manner. I bet you saw a lot of jaws drop at SMW whne they saw your fleet!

A belated Congrats and a question: I see you own/borrowed at least two editions of "Project Cancelled", the one I have, and another one with a seemingly different cover. Are there any differences in them, aside from the price?

Thorvic

Those are Joe's editions of Project Cancelled, the First edition is in silver grey with the bleck aircraft drawing, the 2nd Edition is the one in colour cover published by Janes in 1986 and the 3rd edition is the Silver grey one with the P1121 mock up photo printed in 1990. The 2nd Edition included much more detail and artwork from the earlier 70's 1st edition and the thrird edition was bascially a reprint of the 2nd edition by a different publisher.

Right, CVA-01 is now off my to-build list, because you've done it so well.
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

Hi Joe

Well you could always do the Autralian version that was propossed to replace HMAS Melbourne.

Would probably have the Tartar/Standard missile system rather than Sea Dart, so the Island would layout would be slightly different due to the Trackers. The RAN would also likley retain the Ikara system too as this was styandard on on their warships. Airgroup would likely be F-4 Phantoms, Tracker, Tracer and Wessex, although this would probably change to Hornets, Viking, Hawkeye & Seaking. Going off the proposal which decided an Oriskanny refurbished Essex would be the cheaper option, it has the Phantoms in both the Interceptor and Strike roles so no dedicated strike aircraft were originally considered.

Alternately perhaps you could do the USN CVV instead  ;D

I have thought about refurbished Essexes for other nations - Australia, Brasil, India, Japan.

Perhaps a stronger UK post-WW2 could have created an export business of CVA-01s, especially if the US was unwilling to sell their "spare" CVs, CVLs, and CVEs.

How about France instead of the CVL's !!!, would go nice with Eagle for a Suez theme

The problem in the 60's is that they started to realise that the current generation of jets coming into service were too big and heavy for the existing fleet carriers. The USN ignored this by focusing on its Super Carriers and discarding its lighter carriers, but the RN and MN instead looked at matching the capabilities of the current generation of jets with smaller lighter yet capable designs. Only when the UK decided to cancel its Carrier fleet did the development stop as the French Navy couldn't justify the expenditure on its own. Now if the 583, AFVG, Mirage G8 or even the Mirage F-1M reached production then there would have been a viable strike fighter for standard carriers.

Long time since I looked in here and I have not congratulated you on your CVA 01 model.
As you know I am a fan of this ship.   The task group looks great and with the Escort
Cruiser in its commando configuration as well.

For anyone who has the 1:1250 Seavee CVA 01 or the more recent Mountford model, I
can recommend an escort group consisting of Blake or Tiger (interim escort cruiser),
Bristol, the only Type 82 built, and a couple of big RFAs (Resource and Olna for example).

The escort cruiser if built would have probably ended up as a design similar to the Invincibles,
but without the ski-jump as the Sea Harrier would not have seen the light of day if the
RN had been able to operate Phantoms and Bucs.  Interestingly at one stage it was supposed
to carry 2 Seadarts rather than just one, as well as an Ikara launcher.  The only published version
of the 1962 ship is in Geoff's TG.

I am still trying to find out how to get to see the nuclear fleet replenishment ship model listed
in the Greenwuich museum collection.  At a guess it will look like a Resource class RFA with a
nuclear stack like the NS Savannah, so quite an easy scratchbuild.

All the best

Fame, FAME!!!  ;D

This month's issue of Model Boats magazine (actually the October issue....) has a report on the Cosford Show that the UK SIG attended back in April. Amongst a few other nautically aligned models Geoff's carrier collection gets a very complimentary mention and a piccie too!

Other models at the show got a name check, but sadly the reporter missed out on doing that for Geoff.

Ah ha i must look out for that Mag next time i'm in town, they were actually on my club stand so i hadn't put the labels with them this time, and with the layout of Cosford over 4 hangers its quite likely that i wouldn't be on the stand when the photos were taken and thus not there to discuss them. Just glad people recognised them and liked them enough to print them

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
