Went to a model railway show on Sunday with Mr and Mrs Frog and the Parental Units. It's a real pity I didn't have a camera along - not only was there a wonderful display of Lego trains, but there was also a really nice ww2 layout. It was apparently based on a station in Dorset, and featured such niceties as a crashed BF109 being salvaged, an AA implacement in a bombed house, and trains carrying spitfires and churchills!
Also, another layout was using Electro Luminescent sheet to create wonderfullly colourful and animated neon signs. This same layout included three weddings and a funeral (four when they display the full size variant!), and (bizzarely) a nudist colony with a camofalged light plane in the middle of it... also a game of soccer in one corner between three tigers and three zebras, with elephants as referees...

I'm sure there will be some photos somewhere on the interwebs by now. I'll have to check the official programme to give you the name of the Dorset layout, it was Evershot or something...
There are no good kits, bad kits or grail kits, just kitbash fodder.
