I recently used Future on some decals, and was unimpressed. The decals were on a light gray or white background, and the Future showed up rather well; it dried up yellowish instead of clear.

How old is your 'Future'? If it's relatively new you've got no chance I'm afraid, as they changed the formula a while back and the new stuff is pants!

Quite a lot of us bought up stocks of the older, and MUCH better, version, as soon as we heard the news about the new stuff.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I believe that Micro SET is merely a "wetting agent". That is, it breaks down the natural tendency of water to ball up (surface tension), so that decals slide better, and adhere better (without micro-"balls" of water underneath). With the SOL, which breaks down the decal a bit, the combination is what does the trick. I used SOL without the SET, and the wrinkles STAYED (it needs the slipperiness of the SET to un-wrinkle, perhaps)!!

I have now taken to MIX the SOL and SET in one bottle, but haven't really noticed any improvement.

The one time I tried Future and SOL, the results were disastrous--I think the Future "froze" the SOL's wrinkles before they had a chance to relax and spread back out.
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

WHAT! You mean I am not the only one to have at least six bottles of the stuff in the stash

Bought mine before the changeover, so it should be okay. It works well in some applications (dipping clear components to hide any scratches) but I'm not using it again over light paint colors.
