Here's a couple WhIfs I knocked together.

First up, an F4U-1D with a twist...RAF-style camo!  The kit is 21st Century Toys 1/32 F4U-1D kit.  Not a great kit, but, a lot of fun, regardless!

Next up, a Czechmodel XF2R-2 Dark Shark, in RAF markings.  The most nightmarish kit I think I've ever built! :o

Any comments, brothers in whiffery?

Both are good looking, really like the Dark Shark

Thanks.  That is one aircraft that SCREAMED to be in RAF markings.  I guess the British tradition of unusual aircraft influenced me.

But BOY! was that worth it!!

Somehow the Darkshark looks sooo right in UK guise...

I think it would have looked even better in prototype colors with yellow belly and rounded P on the sides...

Certainly was! Both models are great.

Corsair looks really cool in that alternate scheme.  Fantastic stuff.

Have to admit though, that the jury`s still out about the Darkstar. Can`t put my finger on it but the fuselage roundel looks strange which may be throwing me off? :-\ Looks like the red section is too big and too orange??

Hear hear, on the Dark shark... definitely worth the effort , as is the Corsair.

Nice - I've a 1/72 Dark Shark in the stash, built it's baby brother the Fireball and that was a bit of a trial I must admit
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

That struck me as well. It's almost a Type C, but not quite. And the red is rather brighter than that of the wing roundels.

Two very, very nice builds nevertheless!

They were some leftovers from a Kitech Spitfire Mk. 19 (I think).  They were pretty inconsistent next to each other.   Stargazer, I would have loved to have had a set of prototype decals.  I thought the same thing!  That's what resulted in the grey/green camo.  I wish I still had my spares box.  I think I had a set of rockets and some bombs.  Damn Katrina...

I have another one of those nightmares in my build pile that may go.  I can't see building another one.  That one was a forged-titanium beyatch!

I love that Ryan, with this scheme is more nice even. :thumbsup: :cheers:javascript:void(0);

I would have never guessed that dark shark had fought you, its looks first class! That is a fantastic looking build

The Corsair looks great in alternate markings!

Well fight or not, they both look really sharp - nice one (two)!

Thanks, y'all.  The F2R1 took a lot of work to get to that level.  At some point, I'll have to have a go at weathering it...

Well, yeah, it really looks too shiny if you want it to look realistic... But the gloss adds to the period feel, as if it was an old Lindberg or Aurora model from the 50s...
