Haven't quite figured out the scenario, but let's just say that the AVG arrives early under the command of a Captain Chennault in 1934. The USAAC sells them some P-6E Hawks and well, from there on they're the Flying Tigers! :P

This is actually sitting in front of me and I'll be working on it this weekend!

There is no reason the Chinese couldn't have simply started recruiting mercenaries from the start of the Manchurian "Incident". Given the US's relationship with China * from the 1890's onwards there is no reason why these couldn't have been given some form of semi official status by the US State Department.

Narses, I completely understand. After the Boxer Rebellion, I am surprised that the US remained involved in major Chinese politics, and not like the British only vested in a territory/city, like Hong Kong.
