Starfix Spitfire...

I've not modelled regularly for thirty-plus years, and not at all for about fifteen since my son built two or three kits but didn't take to it. I'm planning to start afresh, and a couple of questions -

Firstly, from memory there are a couple of posts in the forum along the lines of "Help - I've not built a model in XX years". Rather than me asking for those ideas again, if anyone could point me to those threads I'd be grateful.

Secondly, I have a practice kit - a £2.00 1/48 Starfix Spit 21 via Ebay. I know about the kit, and was wondering if it's good for anything beyond making your first mistakes with? If there are any creative examples of what can be done with it (I hope I'm not setting myself up here!), it would be good to see them.

Cheers.

Merv_P,

Almost ANYthing can be done with a Starfix Spitfire kit, it's just that you've NO chance of making a Spifire out of it. At least not one that looks even slightly as if it was designed by Supermarine anyway......  ;D ;)

And yes, you ARE setting yourself up there.

You know people, I have never seen a Starfix kit

They are just physical manifestations of collisions between enigma & conundrum particles.

Any aircraft can be improved by giving it a SHARKMOUTH!

You've not missed anything Jim!

I think I still have something that Starfix purported to be a kit of an AH-1 Cobra, but the only thing that's even vaguely 'Cobra' about it is the piccie on the 'instructions'. The word 'instructions' here is used in its WIDEST possible sense!

I can vaguely remember building a Starfix Spit with my dad when I was four, had it for years. I think I still have it somewhere.

Would be marching to the beat of his own drum, if he didn't detest marching to any drumbeat at all so much.

I just LOVE the comment on the build review!  ;D

It says 'Run away, run away very fast!'

Starfix eh?

Accuracy - poor.

Ease of fit - pretty good if I recall correctly.

Instructions -meh, who needs 'em?

Beginner potential - actually pretty good. Great for kids to start with because they were inexpensive, and you didn't worry about blowing big money on something that was going to get gluey fingerprints all over it.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Hah, on seeing those two reviews, I actually rather want one! It wouldn't end up as a Spitfire, of course, but it looks like an interesting kit to bash into something else....
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<
