Hi,
I've caught "Man-Flu" and have been off sick for the last two weeks. Whilst confined to my bed, I thought I'd finish off project Colossus- the joining of two Airfix 1/144 Mountbatten Class hovecraft kits. To make one larger one. This didn't work out as I as well as I intended.
So grabbing the Sea Shadow kit down from the shelf, and a rumage to find sheets of plasticard.
First thing I noticed was the 1/144 Sea Shadow kit wasn't long enough, but a sheet of A4 plasticard was ideal as it covered most of the area. Using the kit parts as templates I cut 6 "V" shapes to act as braces/strengtheners. Just as you'd use for ship building or eves for a house. Scrap card was glued to the base at rightangles. The bridge section of the Sea Shadow was glued in place, with the aft section glued upside down to create the front cargo doors and to stop the bridge section from falling down.
The rear hovercraft doors were kept and glued in place. The only interior detail is in the bridge area, although I did add a landing platform as the roof. 3 of the hovercraft tail fins were glued to the roof and the jet engines from my Sea Master kit were glued to the rear. Small triangles of plasticard were cut to strengthen the roof.
I'm thinking of using the engines from my 1/300 B747 kit along with cut down wing, as I read that boats when traveling over 50 knots tend to takeoff (fly)!!
I've got some of that very fine bubble-wrap and I'm thinking of using this to cover any gaps or filler. This would give an armour plating look when sprayed.
Pictures will follow as I could reveal all on the 'current and finished topics'.
Just helps me to get my ideas down on paper. :banghead:
