With the 3d remastered Top Gun due this year, I got inspired to do a suite of Top Gun planes....

The Whiffy part is, of course, the Mig 28. I recently discovered that, after the Vietnam war, the victors ended up with a bunch of F5As abd F5Es, which they continued to use. So, with the appropriate decals, here's the Esci NVAF F5A

After the War, the Russians took some examples back to the USSR for evaluation. Generally impressed with the design, they tweaked it to take the Tumansky R-27-300 turbojet engine used in the Mig 23 and Mig 27, and marketed it as an alternative to the Mig 21, under the banner "Mig 28":

(This is, of course, a Hasegawa F20, suitably fitted out with Russian missiles, and painted in all over "NATO black"...)

To finish the movie set, here's the Esci F5E in Top Gun colours - specifically Sundowners, 'cos I liked the look :)

And my Academy Tomcat, which turned out nicely too - and I didn't stuff the swing-wings either!:

So here they all are in my Top Gun 25th Anniversary shelf (good god, is it really that long??? Now I feel old...)

They are really nice
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thanks. Took me 2 months that one - I started it first, but managed to complete all 3 F5s long before it was finished. Of course I did make life difficult for myself by going for a 3-tone-grey scheme,,,!

Last posts for any information on Top Gun 3d ( :banghead: ) was September 12, last year.  Nothing new yet, not even on Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB.
