DH-108 swallow in RAF front line service!

seeing as you all seemed to like my "Turbo fan" meteor, thought i would show you one more of my what if builds

WHAT IF WW2 had gone on longer than 1945? .. would the swallow have been considered for RAF service?? would it have been any good? who knows! but here's my take on how it might have looked :thumb:
first of, couple of pics to show you how i scratch built it.
take one scrap Frog vampire from the scrap box.

bit of cut and shut.. and some scratch built wings.

bit of shaping, filling, sanding..etc and its starting to take shape.

primed and staring to take shape.


then the fished  DH Swallow F-1






think it doesn't look to bad considering i didn't spend to long on it..
what do we think??

Was always procrastinating building a 144th Swallow, even after Anigrand added it to the lineup of bonus birds accompanying bigger kits.

chris' it looks like just very basic wing shaping from styrene stock. Used to do these in 1/144th quite a bit. Just get the right thickness or laminate up to it and use a paper template by getting the profile drawing online, editing in Photoshop or InDesign to reduce it to scale size when printed on a 8x11 sheet and print, cut out and use it to mark and cut the plastic. After that its a choice of the dremel or the knife and what you want your plastic debris to look like, peels or powder. Lots of sanding and a surfacer coat to complete.

 I have often wondered if it would be possible to create a airfoil shaping jig by adapting one of those commercial knife and scissors sharpeners. Those basically let you put a new edge on your kitchen and other tools by dragging them through a series of carbide steel slots until the proper edge angle and honing is there. Since styrene is so softer than a knife or scissors, it should be a snap to use. Have them set for a variety of leading and trailing edges, rounded or tapering.

 For a bit of fun, if you use one of those in your kitchen, try this sometime- freshly sharpen a kitchen knife and then cut some veggies up like carrots and then put them into the microwave and watch the fireworks as the tiny steel flakes turn into scale signal flares.

I built the Planet Swallow many moons ago and put in the high altitude scheme. 3 aircraft specifically converted to intercept high flying He 343's on recce missions over Scapa Flow

you best go to the top of the class!! 10 out of 10 for spotting that one

the description on how i made the wings is spot on.. i the plastic i use come from.......
old bath panels!! being a kitchen/ bathroom fitter. i get to rip out a lot of old plastic side panels from baths.. and the plastic thay are made from is just right for a bit of modeling

pleased you all like my little kit bash.. i will post some more up, then get cracking on with my next build so i can start a full build up tread.
