Hey Guys, i just went to Google, Trying to answer a Q and Was kinda Curious. Did the RAF ever consider Getting the F-80 Shooting Star or were they Content to use 'Home Grown' Fighter Jets?  just a Question that's been Bugging me for a While. What Say You? Thanks for looking. Dan

They received a P-59 for trials and the US received a Meteor Dan but as far as I know the P-80 wasn't considered, may be wrong. They had both the Meteor and Vampire available and at the time the Government of the day were investing heavily in the UK aircraft industry - we were skint but when did that ever effect any government anywhere  :-\

A thought has come to me, unusual I know, but what if the RAF had sent a squadron to Korea but because of the logistics just sent the personnel ? Once there equipped with US supplied F-80's and then maybe F-84's ? Be an excuse to put some in RAF roundels
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Now theres an idea USAF Vampire in Korea, though the F-80 would look better in RAF marking (me being English). I know the Yugoslavians had Shooting stars and the did look good in the RAF style camo.  ;D

I think the P-80 wasn't much of an advance on the Meteor or Vampire while having rather more "early jet" problems than either, mainly due to it's long intake ducts. If you look at P-80 exports, they all seem to be of second hand examples in the mid to late 1950s, which might imply that the USAF needed all the production it could get when they were new.
