3014 MODELS!!!! 2012 NWSM display at the Museum of Flight ...

Northwest Scale Modelers, a very loosely organized group (no dues, no rules, just fun) puts on
a two-day display every February at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Wa. The previous record was
just over 2000 models, the target this year was 2500 ... the official count was in by 1600 PST
today and we hit 3014 models!

As Louie De Palma would say, HOLY CRAP!!! My condolences to the judges, they won't be able to drive properly for a week due to all the model images burned into their retinas!

no judging this is purely a display put on in the Great Gallery of the Museum, under and around the Lockheed M-12/D-21
combination.

we don't have count yet on the number of modellers, but a few guys brought pretty much their entire collection,
i.e. Bill Osborn brought @560 1/72 models, many of them obscure types and A-Model kits.

The public and the Musuem hierarchy love it.

Sounds like a sort of show I wouldn't mind bringing some of mine to Jon,  the competition shows just remind me of when we used to do the dog-show circus, it was 'who-you-know' that got you anywhere.

The official count bumped to 3030 for the weekend, a couple folks came Sunday who couldn't make it on Saturday,
and five of us completed a speed-build, start the model after 10:00 on Saturday and finish by 1600 on Sunday.
I did the old Monogram 1/32nd '65 Pontiac GTO. Woohoo, first completion for 2012.

BTW one of the Museum staff told me their admissions number for Saturday was 2800, the best Saturday they've had in three years.

Bob Jacobsen was there both days with his beautiful remote-control R2D2, watching the little kids react to R2 is classic.

Bill ended up renting a truck and several folks helped him break down on Sunday.

So 5105 people came through and saw the display.
We had Make-and-Takes for the kids on both days (Galaxy Hobbies on Saturday, Skyway Model Shop on Sunday),
and over 350 kits were given out.

There was one at one of the UK shows, it keeped bumping into the stands and someone had a quite word with the owner, something a long the lines of "if that tin can bumps into one more thing you'll be inside it".
